Cards Rally, Score Four Unanswered to Defeat Blue Knights

WHEELING, W.Va. – After falling behind 2-0 in the second half of Wednesday night's match, the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals rallied to score four unanswered goals to defeat the Urbana Blue Knights, 4-2.
 
Jenny Soegaard-Andersen scored a pair of goals in a 16 second span for the Cardinals to tie the match. Shortly after the Soegaard-Andersen goals, Sydney Lavengood converted what would become the match's game winning goal off an Emily Hartley corner kick. Hartley added an insurance goal for the Cardinals in the 89th minute.

Jenny Soegaard-Andersen is now tied for the MEC lead in goals with eight. 

 
"Wow, what can you say about the second half performance. We were poor in the first half but we found a spark in the second half with Jenny's two goals and carried on from there," WJU head coach Tyler Absalom expressed.
 
WJU earned its sixth win of the season, its most since the 2011-12 season in which the Cardinals finished 6-11.
 
WJU managed just two shots in the first half before exploding for four second period goals.
 
Lavnegood found Soegaard-Andersen on a soft pass in the 63rd minute, and Soegaard-Andersen would add her second goal of the contest just 16 seconds later off a fast break opportunity. Soegaard-Andersen is now tied for first in the Mountain East Conference with eight goals.  
 
Hartley and Lavengood each finished with a goal and an assist in the match. Meghan Horan, Kristen Garland, Cameron Smith and Micah Miller finsiehd with a shot apiece.
 
The Cardinals complete the 2016 regular season with a Saturday match against the Charleston Golden Eagles. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 and the five Cardinal seniors will be honored.
