WHEELING, W.Va. – In the Cardinals season finale match, WJU battled the Charleston Golden Eagles to an overtime period before UC converted on a free-kick from the 35-yard line, clinching a 2-1 victory.

Before Saturday's match, WJU celebrated the careers of five seniors. Kristen Garland, Meghan Horan, Morgan Jacobson, Sydney Lavengood, and Falon Weidman each took the field for their final time as a WJU Cardinal.

"Today was tough, we fought hard to send our seniors out with a win and we came close," WJU head coach Tyler Absalom stressed. "We had good chances but unfortunately we ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard. I couldn't be more proud of the effort today and the commitment of our seniors during their career."

In the 14^th minute of play, Charleston (13-3-2, 13-2-1) scored off a crossed pass from the right sideline.

The Cardinals (6-11-1, 5-10-1) tied the contest at one apiece when sophomore Emily Hartley controlled a rebound and blistered a shot (33:35) into the top right hand corner of the net.

The two MEC squads played the remainder of regulation to a deadlocked tie and would head to a first overtime period. Charleston was able to convert on the free kick less than three minutes into the period, and would win the match, 2-1.

Five Cardinals finished with a shot on the day including Garland, Jacobson and Lavengood. Hartley and Micah Miller accounted for the remaining two Cardinal opportunities.

Sophomore Hannah Thompson tallied a season-best 10 saves against the Golden Eagles.
