No. 15 Blue Knights Nets Pair of Early Scores, Defeat Cardinals

WHEELING, W.Va. – A pair of Blue Knights goals in the opening 30 minutes spelled a tough night on the Cardinals Wednesday night pitch. No. 15 Urbana recorded a 3-0 win over Wheeling Jesuit in Mountain East Conference men's soccer.

After Urbana's Lewis Dunne tapped in the first goal (14:36), Jordan Frommeyer attempted two WJU headers directly in front of the visiting goal five minutes apart to no avail (17:45 and 22:32). The Blue Knights (11-3-1/8-3 MEC) added a second goal before the half and held off the Cardinals (6-11/4-8 MEC) in the second half.

"We gave away two goals in the first half and you can't give away any goals to a team as good as Urbana," said WJU coach Jim Regan. "We fought well in the second half, but were unable to break through."

In the second half, WJU's Brent Pedlow booted a high shot at 77:35 and put one on goal less than 10 minutes later, which was saved by Urbana's goalie.

The Blue Knights held the shot advantage, 21-5, in the match. WJU goalie Tyler Shotwell registered five saves.

Ricardo Luna added the final WJU shot on goal.

The Cardinals wrap up their regular season on Saturday afternoon. WJU honors its eight senior members, before it hosts No. 6 University of Charleston at 3:30 p.m.
