WHEELING, W.Va. - In the 38^th minute of Thursday night's Mountain East Conference matchup, Jenny Soegaard-Andersen received a pass from the left side of the field from Sydney Lavengood and converted what would become the game-winning goal in the Cardinals 1-0 victory over rival West Liberty University.

WJU (5-9-1, 4-8-1 MEC) managed to shut out West Liberty (5-6-3, 5-4-3 MEC) as Hannah Thompson turned away all nine Hilltopper shots and finished with three saves in the match.

"We did very well in possession tonight despite the inclement weather," Cardinals coach Tyler Absalom stated. "I am very proud of the complete 90-minute effort the team put forth and how they stuck to the tactics throughout the match."

With the win, WJU reaches the five-win plateau for the first time since the 2013 season. The Cardinals have now improved upon their win total each of the past three seasons.

Lavengood and Soegaard-Andersen sent a shot on goal for the Cardinals while Emily Hartley, Cameron Smith, Meghan Horan and Kristen Garland each had shots miss just wide of the net.

The Cardinals travel to Notre Dame on Sunday, October 23 for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff with the Falcons.
