Marauders Edge Cardinals in Overtime

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – In a late-season non-Conference matchup, NCAA Atlantic Region playoff qualifier Millersville edged Wheeling Jesuit men's soccer, 2-1 in overtime.

After a scoreless opening half, the Cardinals' (6-9) Jordan Frommeyer knocked in a rebound and put in the match's first goal at 49:40. The Marauders (10-3-2) found the net for the tie in the 66th-minute, before Omar Guzman ended the match 3:28 into the extra period.

"I'm proud of our performance tonight. We played better tonight and deserved a better fate," explained WJU coach Jim Regan. "In overtime, it always comes down to who makes the first mistake not necessarily the better team.

The Cardinals defense and goalie Matt McCormick played tough all evening. Despite being outshot 22-7, McCormick posted a season-high 10 saves in goal and did not allow a goal over the opening 65 minutes of action.

Frommeyer produced four of WJU's 12 shots and three of the five shots on goal of the visiting offense. Manny Del Rio and Jordan Simpson accounted for the other two shots on goal.

"We need to build on this for our tough Conference run (in the final three matches against nationally-ranked opponents)," pointed out Regan.

WJU returns to Mountain East Conference play on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals play at the Falcons of Notre Dame College in a 1 p.m. kick-off.
