Four Cardinals Score, Complete Sweep of Rams

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – For the second time this week, the Cardinals men's soccer team put a nice "W" in the win column. Wheeling Jesuit received goals from four different players and completed the Mountain East Conference season sweep at Shepherd, 4-1.

Leading 1-0, Micah Tatebe scored off a Jordan Frommeyer pass and gave WJU (6-8/4-5 MEC) a 2-0 lead at 37:25 for the game-winner. Owain Hawkins netted the opening score in the 21st-minute, before Aitor Iniguez de Heredia and Charlie Cahill added second-half insurance goals.

The Cardinals won the first match against the Rams (1-12/0-9 MEC) on September 9, 6-0.

WJU dominated the play on Shepherd. WJU attempted 12 and 13 shots for 25 in the match compared to Shepherd's five. The visitors also held the edge in both shots on goals, 14-3, and corner kicks, 10-0.

Both de Heredia and Cahill added a second point to their Sunday production. De Heredia assisted on Hawkins' opener. Cahill later had the assist on de Heredia's goal at 53:15, before he connected on his unassisted score (86:24).

Goalie Tyler Shotwell picked up his second victory of the year and recorded two saves.

The Cardinals remain on the road in a Wednesday night, Oct. 19, match. WJU travels for a non-conference match at Millersville starting at 7 p.m.
