Klock and Lavengood Lead Cardinals Past Mountain Lions

WHEELING, W.Va. – Kayla Klock and Sydney Lavengood each scored a goal in the Wheeling Jesuit women's soccer teams' 2-0 victory over Concord University Thursday night. Klock gave the Cardinals an early advantage in the 14th minute of play while Lavengood provided insurance in the 47th minute.

WJU (4-8-1, 3-7-1 Mountain East Conference) has now won three of its last four contests while Concord falls to 3-7-3 overall and 3-6-3 in league play.

"We had a good performance tonight, and we really capitalized on early opportunities in the first and second half that helped us get the job done," WJU head coach Tyler Absalom expressed. "The team is really gaining momentum and I am very proud of them."

In the 14th minute, Klock controlled a long pass that was bobbled between the visiting keeper and defender, and was able to finish off the first strike of the match.

Just over two minutes into the second half, Lavengood received a pass from Klock and was able to rocket a shot past a diving keeper, giving WJU its 2-0 lead.

The Cardinals maintained control of the game over the last 40 minutes of play, securing the shutout. Hannah Thompson finished with eight saves in her 90 minutes of play.

The Cardinals out-shot the Mountain Lions 15-11 on the night. Meghan Horan led WJU with four shots, one of which was on goal. Klock added three shots while Lavengood and Jenny Soegaard-Andersen each tallied two shots. Four Cardinals finished with one shot apiece.

WJU travels to Shepherd University on Sunday, October 16 for a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
