Frommeyer Goal Helps Cardinals Bounce Mt. Lions

WHEELING, W.Va. – A 77th-minute Jordan Frommeyer goal helped the Cardinals return to the win column. The Wheeling Jesuit men's soccer team earned the 1-0 shutout over Concord Thursday night.

Brent Pedlow booted a pass from the right side of the goal to Frommeyer, who beat the Mountain Lions' diving goalie for the Cardinals score.

With the victory, WJU (5-8/3-5 MEC) snaps its six-match losing streak and added the program's fifth victory of the season.

"I told the players that tonight's game was about two teams struggling with performance all year. The team that wanted it more tonight was going to win," explained WJU coach Jim Reagan.

The Cardinals shut of the Mountain Lions (5-6/4-4 MEC) was theirs and goalie Matt McCormick's third of the season. McCormick saved the lone Concord shot on goal.

WJU outshot its visitors 18-7. Aitor Iniguez de Heredia booted four of the 18 shots on his own. Teavon Spencer, who missed adding another home goal on a header late in the first half, had three shots, while Pedlow, Daniel Undreiner, Frommeyer and Micah Tatebe each hit two shots.

"I think we showed a lot of heart and desire tonight to get the win and a huge psychological boost for Sunday," said Reagan.

WJU goes on the road for a Sunday 1 p.m. match at Shepherd.
