Cardinals Head Way to Win Column in OT

URBANA, Ohio – Jenny Soegaard-Andersen's overtime header took the Wheeling Jesuit women's soccer team past Urbana, 2-1, Saturday afternoon.

Trailing with 3:12 left in regulation, Nikki Hillard took Morgan Jacobson's through ball and connected on her first goal of the year to tie the match, 1-1. Off a corner kick, Jacobson touched the ball to Soegaard-Andersen with 46 seconds left in overtime for the comeback Cardinals (2-7-1/1-6-1 Mountain East Conference) win over the Blue Knights (1-9/1-7 MEC).

"We faced quite a bit of adversity today," noted WJU head coach Tyler Absalom. "We missed some early chances and the game was very scrappy both ways. I'm very happy with our effort and focus late in the game to get the win."

The WJU win, its second of the year, turned out to come in overtime. The Cards first victory came in a 3-2 OT win over Findlay on Sept. 18.

Urbana broke the scoreless match with a goal from Savannah Thomas at 70:31.

The Blue Knights finished with the shot edge, 17-11, but the Cardinals took the final attempt in regulation and both overtime tries.

Goalie Hannah Thompson saved seven Urbana shots in 99:14 in net.

WJU will next host West Virginia Wesleyan next Friday. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
