Cardinals Fall to Falcons

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Wheeling Jesuit women's soccer team fell, 2-0, at Mountain East Conference foe Notre Dame College on Thursday.

Notre Dame (4-2-1, 3-1-1 MEC) scored only 15 minutes into the match and added an insurance goal in the 78th minute of play. WJU (2-4-1, 2-2-1 MEC) could not convert on its four shots on goal, two in each half of play.

"We did not get a good start to the game. We got down early and had to fight for every inch on the field," stated head coach Tyler Absalom. "Eventually we settled in and had a few quality chances in the second half. We just have to take better advantage of our opportunities."

The Cardinals struggled to get anything going offensively in the match. WJU recorded two shots on goal in the first half and two in the second half.

Kristen Garland booted a shot on goal in the 16th minute that was saved by Notre Dame goalkeeper Louisa Rygh.  Emily Hartley added a shot on goal at 31:54 before Karly Judy had a shot saved in the 41st minute.

Freshman Cheyenne Kuncher recorded the Cardinals only two shots in the second period. Kuncher had a shot saved at 60:35 and had a shot blocked by a Notre Dame defender only nine seconds later.

WJU was out shot by Notre Dame College 21-5 in the match. WJU senior goalie Holly Kraus recorded six saves in the match.

The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, September 27 at 12:00 p.m., when they travel to West Liberty University.
