SHEPERDSTOWN, W.Va. – After seeing his team's lose the lead less than 20 seconds before, Wheeling Jesuit's Manuel Del Rio blistered a 25-yard screaming shot into the top corner of the Shepherd University net for the 2-1 victory Friday afternoon.
 
The Rams (0-3/0-2 Mountain East Conference) tied the contest at 1-1 with their lone goal coming at 88:56. Micah Tatebe played the ball ahead to Del Rio, who connected for his first collegiate goal with 48 seconds left in the game.
 
WJU (2-1-1/1-1 MEC) newcomer Brent Pedlow broke a scoreless game with a goal off a pass from Aitor de Heredia in the 69^th minute of action.
 
"Brent Pedlow's hard work finally was rewarded with his first goal to give us the lead. We lacked discipline down the stretch, which allowed Shepherd back in the game. Shepherd defended well and we couldn't break them down before Del Rio's wonder goal," explained Cardinal head coach James Regan.
 
The Cardinals outshot their foe again with an 18-12 margin and a 7-2 difference on corner kicks. Goalie Mathew McCormick registered four saves.
 
Wheeling Jesuit has almost a week off before it will host West Virginia Wesleyan next Thursday, Sept. 17, starting at 5 p.m.
