WHEELING, W.Va. – On a night when three 1,000-kill team members were honored, Wheeling Jesuit swept past West Virginia State, 3-0, and clinched its third-straight Mountain East Conference regular season title.

The Cardinals (28-4) ran their league mark to 15-0 as they took the straight-sets match over the Yellow Jackets (8-17/4-11 MEC) by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-12.

Before the match, WJU head coach Christy Benner honored her team's three juniors – Haley Kindall, Emma Schleucher and Kayce Krucki – on reaching the 1,000-kill career plateau. In three seasons, the three Cardinal hitters are remarkably within seven career kills of each other – Kindall (1,063), Schleucher (1,062) and Krucki (1.056) – and the trio reached 1,000 kills within three nights of each other. On Oct. 24 at home against Fairmont State, both Schleucher and Kindall reached the milestone while Krucki joined them 3 nights later at West Liberty.

On Friday night, Maddy Smith paced WJU with nine kills, while both Katie Campbell and Krucki added eight apiece. Julie Henderson handed out eight assists and Abby Moffit had five digs.

WJU completes its regular season in a Saturday home tri-match. The Cardinals host the MEC's University of Charleston at 1 p.m., before they entertain Cedarville University at 5 p.m. In the 3 p.m. middle match, Charleston and Cedarville take the McDonough Center court.
