Oilers Prevail over Cardinals, Snap Win Streak

FINDLAY, Ohio – In an always tough place to play, the Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team fell for the first time in 23 matches by a 3-1 final at the University of Findlay Wednesday night.

The Midwest Region's No. 4 rated team, the Oilers (21-7), started strong and never gave much room to the No. 6 ranked Cardinals (27-4). Findlay scored the match's first point and never trailed over the opening two sets (25-17 and 25-21). WJU's first lead came 22-21 in set three, before it outlasted the home team (30-28). The visitors could not make it two sets in a row as it fell late in set four, 25-21, to end the match.

The Cardinals' loss was their first since a 3-2 defeat against Minnesota-Duluth on Sept. 12 and snapped their 22-match win streak. Findlay held WJU to a .202 hitting percentage on the night. WJU's four losses on the year have all been to 20-plus win and regionally-ranked teams.

Haley Kindall paced the Cardinal attack as she tied her season-high with 17 kills. She also hit .467 with four total blocks.

Kayce Krucki produced her ninth double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Emma Schleucher chipped in 12 kills and Andrea Thobe handed out 46 assists.

WJU starts a three-match home weekend on Friday night, Nov. 13, when it tries to clinch the Mountain East Conference title against West Virginia State. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
