Cardinals Fall to No. 13 Bobcats

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit women's soccer team fell to Mountain East Conference opponent West Virginia Wesleyan College, 2-0, on Friday night. The No. 13 Bobcats (10-0-2, 8-0-2 MEC) scored their two goals in the first period against the Cardinals (2-7-2, 2-5-2 MEC).

West Virginia Wesleyan scored only 31 seconds into the match when Collete Biondi headed the ball into the back of the net. The Cardinal defense responded well, allowing only one goal throughout the rest of the match.

"It was a sloppy game and we obviously started poorly giving up a goal so early on," head women's soccer coach Tyler Absalom stated. "After that, we never found our rhythm and were forced out of our style of play which is disappointing to say the least."

Four Cardinal players recorded shots in the match. Nikki Hillard fired a shot that was saved in the final minute of play in the first period.

Sara Blasiman had a shot saved by the Bobcat goalkeeper at 60:29. Emily Hartley and Kristen Garland each added a shot to the WJU total.

Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Thompson recorded 11 saves in the match. Thompson has now recorded double-digit saves in two of her three starts this season.

The Cardinals return to action when they play host to Fairmont State on Sunday, Oct 11 at 3:30 p.m.
