WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit women's soccer team fell to Mountain East Conference opponent Urbana University, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals (2-6-2, 2-4-2 MEC) responded to the first two Blue Knight (4-6, 3-5 MEC) goals of the match to tie the score two different times. Urbana went on to record the match deciding goal on a penalty shot.

"We gave away the game by not starting mentally sharp," WJU head women's soccer coach Tyler Absalom said. "We will learn from our mistakes and move on to focus on our next game."

Junior Meghan Horan opened up the scoring for the Cardinals with a penalty shot goal of her own in the 37^th minute. Horan's goal tied the match at one heading into the half.

Urbana scored off a header less than two minutes into the second half to take a 2-1 lead.

Freshman Gabby Burchett tied the score at two at 70:58, scoring on a loose ball off the hands of the visiting team's goalkeeper. Burchett was able to finish off the goal, shooting through a defenders legs.

Urbana scored the fifth goal of the match in the 78^th minute when WJU was called for a foul. Hannah Rembach converted the match winning goal on a penalty shot for the Blue Knights.

WJU finished with 11 shots in the match. Burchett and Horan led the Cardinals with three shots each, while Nikki Hillard added two shots. Samantha Combs, Sara Blasiman, and Cheyenne Kuncher each added a shot of their own to the Cardinal total.

The Cardinals return to action on Friday, October 10, when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan College.
