Cardinals Continue Run, Take Care of Hilltoppers

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – It is never easy in a rival match. Wheeling Jesuit continued its Mountain East Conference volleyball run against a fast-improving West Liberty team, 3-0, on the road Tuesday night.
 
With the win, the Cardinals (24-3) improve toa MEC-leading 11-0 mark as they defeated the Hilltoppers (12-15/5-6 MEC) by score sets of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-22.
 
Kayce Krucki paced the WJU attack with a season-high 15-kill performance. The junior posted her seventh double-double of the season as she dug 11 attacks.
 
Haley Kindall was right behind Krucki with 12 kills. The MEC Player of the Week, Andrea Thobe, handed out 46assist and posted 10 digs, her 13th double-double. Her sister, Jessica Thobe, added 19 digs and Sam Obringer 16.
 
WJU makes the trip to southwest Virginia for a 5 p.m. match at MEC second-place UVa-Wise on Friday, Oct. 30.
 
No. 7 WJU 3, West Liberty (25-15, 25-18, 25-22)
In the sets…
Trailing 11-9 in the first set, WJU went on a 9-0 run and ran in front, 18-11 behind Maddy Smyth's three kills and a solo block and Lauran Graves' pair of service aces. Kindall finished off the set with a kill, 25-15.
 
With a 12-8 advantage, Krucki and Kindall teamed for three kills and a tandem block to push the margin to 17-8. The visitors' lead stayed no less than six points over the rest of the set, 25-18.
 
West Liberty gave a push in the third set. The 'Toppers trailed by only three points five times late in the match, before cutting the deficit to two, 24-22. Kindall downed the final WJU point to end the match from there, 25-22.
