Box Score Athens, W.Va. -- Despite a double double by junior forward
Kyle Ritz and four players in double digit scoring figures for the game, the Cardinals dropped a four point decision, 84-80, to the Concord University Mountain Lions.
Ritz hit 9 of 13 field goals, made 20 total points, and posted 13 total rebounds. Junior guard
Justin Fritts also posted 20 points and added five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Junior guard
Eric Siefert had 15 points and four rebounds. Finally, freshman forward
Haywood Highsmith finished the game with 8 rebounds and 11 points.
In a back and forth game that witnessed the score tied 11 times and 13 lead changes, the difference between victory and defeat came back to the fundamentals. Concord edged the Cardinals 45.3% to 43.3% in field goal percentage. Likewise, the Mountain Lions outpaced the Cardinals in three point percentage, 41.7% to 27.3%.
The loss drops the overall record of the Men's Basketball program to 6-4 and 2-3 in the Mountain East Conference. The Cardinals return to action on Thursday night when they host the Fairmont State Falcons at 7:30pm.
