Box Score Institute, W.Va. – Despite four Cardinal players scoring in double digits, Jesuit Women's Basketball dropped a 77-74 decision to the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State University Saturday afternoon.
Jesuit and WV State went toe-to-toe in the first half. Wheeling Jesuit tied the game three times, while the Yellow Jackets tied it four times. Each team had the lead twice in the first half. Even though WV State scored 30 points in the paint and had eight points off turnovers, Wheeling Jesuit took a one-point lead into the half, 36-35.
WV State's Trina Current made a layup at 13:28 of the second half to put the Yellow Jackets ahead 50-49 and they never relinquished the lead the rest of the way. Jesuit managed to tie the game at the 7:53 mark, but WV State had an answer each time the Cardinals pulled close.

Jaila Bryant had a strong performance once again for the Cardinals. Bryant hit 11 of 20 field goal attempts, had five assists, pulled down three rebounds, and finished with 22 points.

Breanna Butler played steady for Jesuit. Butler finished the game with 15 points, hit the glass for four rebounds, and had one block and one steal on the afternoon.
Jesuit's two sophomore forwards,
Jaana Motton and
Lydia Hyburg, each finished with 10 points. Motton added nine rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Hyburg went 4 for 4 from the foul line, brought down two rebounds, and had a steal of her own.
The loss brings Wheeling Jesuit's record to 11-6 on the year and 8-5 in the Mountain East Conference. The Cardinals are now 6-2 at home and 5-4 on the road.
Jesuit Women's Basketball returns to action this Monday when the team returns home to the McDonough Center to host University of Charleston in another MEC matchup at 5:30 pm.
