Box Score Urbana, Ohio – Jesuit Women's Basketball continued its journey through the Mountain East Conference when it travelled to Urbana, Ohio to take on the Blue Knights of Urbana University Thursday night. Junior guard
Breanna Butler provided the fireworks the Cardinals needed to defeat Urbana 71-61.
Urbana was red-hot starting the game. The Blue Knights hit 12 of their first 17 attempts to take a 12-point advantage. But the Cardinals went on a 20-2 run at the end of the first half to go into the intermission ahead 36-31.
Butler continued her torrid tear through MEC opponents. The 5'9" guard hit 5 of 8 from three-point range, 8 of 11 from the field, and made 4 of 4 free throw shots to lead the Cardinals with 25 points, a season high.
Butler, who averages 13.1 points per game, has broken the 20-point barrier two of the last three times she has hit the court. In addition to tonight's performance, Butler scored 21 points against West Liberty in an 82-76 win two games ago.
Junior guard
Jaila Bryant added 14 points with two assists and two steals.
Sophomore forward
Lydia Hyburg had a season-high 12 points, hit 4 of 6 shots from the field, made 4 of 4 from the foul line, and wiped the glass for nine rebounds in the victory.
Freshman guard
Mariah Callen played a tenacious game, scoring eight points with five assists and two steals.
Wheeling Jesuit hit 50% of their shots in the first half. The Cardinals had only six turnovers in the game and capitalized on 16 points off nine Urbana turnovers. Jesuit also had a distinct advantage in points off the bench. WJU got 20 points off the bench compared to Urbana's 2. Also of note, the Lady Cardinals made 16 of 18 foul shots (88.9%) on the night.
The victory moves the Cardinals' overall record to 11-5 and 8-4 in the Mountain East Conference. Jesuit Women's Basketball continues on the road when they travel to Institute, W.Va. to play the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State on Saturday January 31
st at 2pm.
