Jesuit Softball Splits at Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. – Marla Small and Rachel Conrad slammed a pair of home runs for the Wheeling Jesuit softball team on the road against Concord University on Thursday to split a Mountain East Conference double header. The two homers led to a 5-4 WJU win in game one, but Cardinals dropped game two 3-4 to go 1-1 in the series.
 
The Cardinals are 14-23 overall, and 7-11 in conference play heading into the business end of the season.
 
In game one, the Cardinals found themselves down 3-2 heading into the top of the 5th inning when Small teed off a three-run home run, bringing in Angie Reddick and Lorian Tharp for two RBIs, giving the Cardinals the 5-3 lead.
 
Erika Jusko picked up the win for WJU, handling the pitching duties through five innings to put her at 7-7 on the season. Ali Smith came in to close out the game in the 6th, allowing WJU to hold on for the 5-4 win.
 
In game two, the Cardinals managed three runs off six hits, including a two-run home run from Ali Smith in the 5th inning to tie the game at three a piece. The score remained tied headed into extra innings when Concord scored the wining run in the bottom of the 8th inning to take the 4-3 victory.
 
Ali Smith threw for the Cardinals in six innings before Allison Litz came in to relieve her in the 7th inning, and picked up her first loss of the season.
