Box Score 2 WISE, Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit softball team dropped a pair of games to the University of Virginia College at Wise from suffering a single tough inning in both games where the Cavaliers piled on enough runs to take two wins, 5-14 in game one, and 5-8 in game two.
With their 2
nd and 3rs straight loss, the Cardinals move to 14-25 overall on the season, and 7-13 in Mountain East Conference play with one more away game to be played in their six-game road trip.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one from Loriane Tharp RBI that scored
Jarah Ice, a SAC fly from
Marla Small that scored
Morgan Stohlman, and an
Erika Jusko single that scored
Angie Reddick.
The lead wouldn't last long however, as the Cavaliers pumped in eight runs in the bottom of the 2
nd inning off a home run, a single, a hit batter, and a pair of errors.
Erika Jusko picked up the loss for WJU allowing those eight runs on four hits before being relieved by
Ali Smith who was in turn relieved by
Amy Rotriga to close out the game, with the final score coming in at 5-14 to the Cavaliers.
Much like the first game, the Cardinals found themselves up 2-0 heading into the bottom of the 4
th inning when UV-Wise's bats heated up and the Cavs brought in five runs from two doubles, two singles, and an RBI.
The Cardinals made a push for a comeback in the 6
th inning with Jusko bringing in Reddick on a single down the left field line, and
Skylar Berger pounding a two-run homer over the left field wall to bring the score to 5-7, but that is as close as WJU would come, taking the 5-8 loss.
WJU returns to action next against cross-town rivals West Liberty up the hill at West Liberty on April 22
