WISE, Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit women's hoops squad bounced back from Monday's loss to Charleston in a big way to earn a solid road victory over new MEC opponent, the University of Virginia – Wise 74-66.
The Cardinals led the entire game to come away with the win, putting them back at .500 (10-10, 7-9 MEC) on the year and giving them their 10
th win this season.
"I thought it was a good effort all around," said WJU head coach
Debbie Buff. "We took care of the ball and made the plays we needed to down the stretch. Our captains showed a lot of poise and leadership, I'm very pleased overall."
WJU had three standout players score in double figures on the night. The usually strong
Breanna Butler led the team with 16 points on a 6-10 from the field performance, climbing out of a slight slump that has seen her normally high number sag.

Taneka Lewis both followed close behind with 12 points and three assists each. Byrant also check in with a Cardinal second-best five rebounds.
The Cardinals as a whole shot 51% from the floor, and 54% from long range, good enough to extend their biggest lead of the game to 11 points with 8:06 left in the second half.
"Every game is important at this point in the season," added Buff. We need to keep getting better. Our goal is to get two wins on the road, so this win is important for our momentum."
The Cardinals continue their three-game road stretch against Concord on Saturday before returning home to face Fairmont State on Saturday at 5:30 PM.
