Box Score South Euclid, Ohio – Despite two 19 point performances by Wheeling Jesuit players, the Women's Basketball team lost on the road Saturday to Notre Dame College, 78-73.
Senior guard
Emily Robinson led the Cardinals. Robinson, who averages 12.5 points per game, had a season-high 19 points, shot 8 of 12 from the field, and had six assists, five rebounds, and three steals in 34 minutes of play.
Junior guard
Jaila Bryant turned in her second best scoring total of the young 2014-15 season. Bryant also had 19 points, shot 5 of 6 from the foul line, and had three rebounds for WJU.
Wheeling Jesuit had a significant advantage in points in the paint, besting Notre Dame College 46 to 22 in this facet of the game. Likewise, WJU had a dominant performance by its bench, scoring 25 points off the bench to Notre Dame's 10.
In tight, highly contested basketball games the difference is the combination of turnovers and how many times your opponent takes advantage of your mistakes. Notre Dame had the advantage in points off turnovers, which was the difference in the game. Notre Dame scored 16 points off turnovers to Wheeling Jesuit's 13.
WJU shot 50.9% from the field compared to Notre Dame College, who shot 40.6%. Notre Dame had the edge in three point percentage, hitting 35.7% from the arc compared to WJU's 18.2%. Finally, NDC had the advantage from the foul line, hitting 80% of its shots compared to the Cardinals' 61.9%.
