Freshman Haywood Highsmith posts 27 points in Jesuit loss to Charleston

Box Score Charleston, W.Va. – Wheeling Jesuit Men's Basketball opened its Mountain East Conference play Monday night on the road at the University of Charleston.  Despite 27 points by freshman forward Haywood Highsmith, Jesuit fell to the Eagles, 83-72.
 
Highsmith, who led all competitors on the court, hit 11 of 14 field goals, put down 5 of 7 free throws, and wiped the boards for 9 rebounds.  Sophomore forward Kyle Ritz had 13 points and 11 total rebounds.  Finally, junior guard Eric Siefert added 10 points for the Cardinals.
 
Wheeling Jesuit went into the break down by 12, 40-28.
 
In the second half, Wheeling Jesuit didn't go without a fight.  Jesuit cut an 18-point lead to just nine on four different occasions.  WJU out-rebounded UC 47-34 with 27 offensive rebounds leading to 15 second chance points.
 
The loss drops the Cardinals' overall record to 2-1 and 0-1 in the MEC.  Jesuit Men's Basketball returns to action on Sunday, November 30th at 4pm in a game against PSAC opponent, Edinboro University.
