Veterans lead the way in 73-61 victory over Lake Erie

Wheeling, W.Va. – The Women's Basketball team defeated the Lake Erie College Storm, members of the GLIAC conference, 73-61 Wednesday night in the McDonough Center.

Jesuit was led by Breanna Butler in the first half.  Butler hit four of six field goals, one of two 3-pointers, and made two foul shots for 11 points in the first half.   The Lady Cardinals went into the break ahead 38-27.

In the second half, senior guard Emily Robinson hit some crucial shots after Lake Erie pulled within four points at 59-55.  Robinson finished with 15 total points by making four of six field goals, two of three from 3 point land, and made five of six shots from the foul line.

Junior guard Jaila Bryant led the Cardinals in total points with 18, as Wheeling Jesuit finished off Lake Erie 73-61, bring their record to 2-0 on the season.

"We are proud of the effort of our team.  When Lake Erie got close in the second half, Emily Robinson hit some clutch shots that pulled us away.  We refused to lose and it is really good to see our team respond in that fashion.  Lake Erie is a good team that will win a good number of games this year.  That was a good win for our program," stated Head Coach Deb Buff.

Wheeling Jesuit Women's Basketball returns to action this Saturday for a 12:30 pm game against West Virginia State.  The game will mark the Cardinals' first Mountain East Conference play of the 2014 season.
