Box Score Wheeling, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit University Women's Basketball program opened up their regular season on Saturday in the McDonough Center against the Alderson Broaddus University Battlers. The Cardinals downed the Battlers 85-48.
Jesuit was led by two familiar faces. Senior guard
Emily Robinson made five of seven field goals and was a perfect 4-4 from three-point land. Junior guard
Breanna Butler hit four of nine shots from the field, three of eight 3-pointers, three of four shots from the foul line, and added seven assists to post 14 total points as well.
The Lady Cardinals had three other players in double digits. Freshman guard
Mariah Callen had 11 total points by hitting four of eight field goals and three of six three point shots. Sophomore forward
Lydia Hyburg and junior guard
Jaila Bryant each had 10 total points. Hyburg went three for four from the field and four of six from the charity stripe. Bryant hit three of eight from the field and four of six free throws.
On the glass,
Jaana Motton led all competitors on the court with 10 total rebounds and added 8 points of her own as the Cardinals won going away.
As a team, Jesuit shot 52.7% from the field and 55.0% from the arc.
"This has a chance to be a special team. If we continue to get better and share the ball and opportunities to score like we did today, this team has the potential to be very good this year. In addition, it was a breath of fresh air to be able to go to the bench and have 10 players play 10 minutes or more. I am proud of our effort today and I look forward to how we progress this season," stated Head Coach Deb Buff.
Jesuit Women's Basketball gets back on the court Wednesday November 19
th when they host the Lake Erie Storm at 7:00pm.
