Cardinal Men Shake Off Rust With Big Win

Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit men's hoops team bounced back from Sunday's loss to Virginia-Wise in a big way on Monday, shaking off the holiday rust to dominate Concord University 100-72 at home in Wheeling.

The Cardinals advance to 6-3 overall on the season and 4-2 in conference play, good enough to bump them up to third place overall in the Mountain East.

From the get-go, WJU showed their intentions to play an up-tempo game shooting 51.6% from the field, and holding the Mountain Lions (who fell short of #1 West Liberty by just 5 points earlier in the week) to just 27% in the first half.

Freshman duo Matt Stewart and Kyle Ritz combined for 18 points in the first half, leading the Cardinals on a 14-0 run mid way through the period to pull away from Concord and give WJU a big 43-22 lead at the break.

"The difference was night and day in our energy, which was most important," said WJU head coach Danny Sancomb. The difference in our execution was much better, as was our ability to take care of the ball for the majority of the game. I think those were our three key things we were able to do to turn it around tonight."

The Cardinals kept up the pace in the second half, picking up where they left off in the first.

Justin Fritts, who only had three points in the first half, caught fire down the stretch putting in 19 more points for a game-high 22. Also finishing strong for the Cards was Andre Harris, who was a terror all night, scoring a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Eric Siefert also had a big night with 16 points.

WJU returns to action on the road this week, traveling to Fairmont State on Thursday and Glenville State on Saturday, before returning home for a six-game stand that includes the annual grudge match against cross-town rivals West Liberty on the 23rd
