Jesuit Soccer Women Bounced By Ursuline College

Box Score
WHEELING, W.Va. - The Wheeling Jesuit University women's soccer team fell to Ursuline College of the Great-Midwest Athletic Conference 4-1 at Emily LaRosa Field on Monday. It was a match comprised of missed opportunities for the Cardinals, who had several chances to score, but couldn't connect on their shots.

The Ursuline Arrows got out of the gate first when Vanessa Consiglio put in an impressive solo effort, speeding around three defenders before finding the back corner of the net.

Ten minutes later Wheeling Jesuit #10 Aubrey Hutchinson evened the score at 1-1 when Cardinal standout, #18 Jessie Vilkofsky sent a cross assist to Hutchinson, who placed a chip-kick in to the corner of the net.

The Cardinals kept the pressure on from there, taking two consecutive unlucky shots that both bounced off the crossbar. Vilkofsky nearly had a goal of her own that bounced back, and #8 Allison Geary picked up the rebound. Geary then took a rip at the net, but her shot was also off the post and the Cards missed their golden opportunity to go up on the visitors.

It was the decisive moment of the match, and had one of those goals gone in, the outcome could have been very different.

Ursuline, however, would capitalize on that missed opportunity and extend their lead in the 34th minute when Page Rowan took a cross kick off her chest then drilled the ball home to put the Arrows up 2-1. With less than eight minutes left in the half Ursuline connected twice more with forward Cassie Cripe scoring first, shortly followed by Midfielder Amanda Levaskevich, taking the convincing 4-1 advantage into halftime.

The second stanza turned out to be a major defensive battle in the midfield with neither team really threatening to score a goal.
The loss puts the Cardinals at 2-5 on the season with two home MEC conference games looming in the coming week against the University of Charleston at 2pm on Wednesday, and Concord University at 1pm on Saturday. The games will both be double headers, as the Men's and Women's teams will both square off against the visitors.
