Jesuit Softball Falls to Rams

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit softball team was back in action on Sunday at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex in a doubleheader against WVIAC opponent Shepherd University. The Cardinals fell by scores of 2-1 and 10-3 as the Rams improved to 4-2 in WVIAC play and 13-17 overall while Jesuit stands at 4-4 in league play and 11-17 overall.

In game one, Shepherd started the scoring in the second inning, and the Cardinals answered. The Rams started with a lead-off single, and after two walks, a second base hit plated a run. Jesuit responded when Aleecia Sunagel led-off with a double, and after Angie Reddick moved her to third base, Skylar Berger sent a deep fly ball to the outfield for a RBI.

WJU pitcher, Ashley Nichols, kept the Rams' offense silent for the next five innings, but Jesuit also failed to generate runs and the game went into extra-innings. In the top of the eighth inning, the Rams generated a run as a base runner started at second base due to the international tiebreaker rules. For the Cardinals, Lorian Tharp started at second base, and Erika Jusko moved her to third with a sacrifice bunt, but Jesuit couldn't plate the run.

In game two, the Rams plated four runs in the first inning on three singles, a double and a homerun. Jesuit answered with three runs when Tharp was hit by a pitch and Reddick walked. With two outs, Jusko cleared the bases on one swing of the bat. The Rams followed with a run in the third, three in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Wheeling Jesuit will be back in action on Wednesday, April 10 in Institute, W.Va. against West Virginia State University. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
