Women’s Lacrosse Explodes for 21 Goals Against Battlers

Box Score WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team earned their second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory as the Cardinals unleashed with 21 goals en route to a 21-1 win over Alderson-Broaddus College. With the win, WJU improved to 4-5 overall and 2-0 the GLIAC while the Battlers slipped to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in league play.
 
Jesuit controlled the pace of play throughout the 60-minute contest. The Cardinals rattled the cage 15 times before the end of the first half ended, and Jessie Tufnell started the scoring at 28:41 and followed with WJU's second goal at 27:09. Allie Fetty and Kaitlyn Boyd made it a 4-0 game by the 26:01 mark, however, the Battlers ended the Cardinal run with a goal at 20:02. Jesuit answered with 11 goals, and netted six goals in the final 30 minutes.
 
Shelby McClure led the Cardinals' offense with five goals while Tufnell followed with four goals. Stephanie Katona added a hat trick, and Sara Fitzsimon had two goals and three assists. Molly Parker and Fetty chipped in a pair of goals, and Parker recorded an assist. Erin Underwood and Christina Bass rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
 
Jesuit controlled the draw, claiming 18-out-of-24 draw controls as Fitzsimon led with seven pick-ups. Parker followed with five draw controls and Tufnell had three. The Cardinals also dominated the ground play, securing 40 ground balls compared to AB's 19. Fitzsimon secured seven ground balls while Bass, Annie Campbell, and Fetty notched four each.
 
Hannah Lazuka earned the win between the pipes, collecting four saves.
 
WJU will be back in action on Sunday, April 7 against Tiffin University at James LaRosa Complex. First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.
