Box Score Tiffin, Ohio---The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team traveled to Tiffin University for the first round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoffs. The Cardinals fell to the Dragons by a score of 22-5. WJU ended the second season of competition with 5-13 overall record and 3-5 in the first year of conference play. With the win, Tiffin advanced to the semifinal round of the GLIAC postseason tournament with an overall mark of 9-8 and 6-2 in league play.
Jessie Tufnell led the Cardinals' offense, scoring all five goals. The first goal came after the Dragons opened with four consecutive goals to take a 4-0 advantage. At 11:44, Jesuit narrowed the deficit by a goal when Tufnell found the back of the net on a pass from Allie Fetty. The duo of Tufnell and Fetty struck again in the ninth minute after a Dragon score, 5-2.
Kassidy Forsen assisted Tufnell's final goal of a hat trick before the end of the first half, however, the Dragons rattled-off three goals before the buzzer sounded, taking an 8-3 halftime lead. After the break, Tufnell buried a free position shot and rattled the cage with an unassisted goal.
Tufnell also led the Cardinals efforts on the ground, securing a team-best three draw controls and one ground ball.
Sara Fitzsimon picked up two draw controls and a ground ball while
Erin Underwood and
Brandi Bahmer had one ground ball each. Tufnell and Fitzsimon caused one turnover apiece.
