Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit softball team split a doubleheader against Ohio Valley University in their final home stand at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex. The Cardinals fell 1-0 in game one and bounced back to save the split with a 3-0 victory. WJU moved to 10-12 in WVIAC play and 17-27 overall while the Fighting Scots moved to 9-13 in league play and 19-21 overall.
In game one, the Fighting Scots limited the Cardinals to two hits.
Jarah Ice opened the game with a single, and in the fourth inning,
Erika Jusko blasted a double. The scoring was silent until the seventh inning when OVU plated the game's only run on a pair of doubles. WJU pitcher,
Ashley Nichols, earned the tough loss with a complete game performance. Nichols scattered six hits and a walk while striking out six batters.
In game two, Nichols received the win. The Cardinals' pitcher only allowed four hits in the complete game shutout with one walk and three strikeouts. WJU dished out eight hits in the winning effort as Ice and
Angie Reddick led the way with a pair of 2-for-3 performances. Ice collected two singles and scored a run while Reddick delivered two doubles with a RBI an run scored.
Jesuit took a 1-0 advantage in the fourth inning when Reddick doubled and
Victoria Vuljanic sent a RBI single into the yard. The Cardinals followed with two runs in the fifth which proved to be enough to secure the win.
Sammy Macioce started a rally with a single and Ice followed with a single.
Lorian Tharp laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up, and Jusko plated the Cardinals' second run with a sacrifice fly out to left field. Reddick followed with a RBI double to plate Ice.
The Cardinals will travel to Bluefield State College for a league doubleheader on Friday, April 26. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
