Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit softball team dropped a doubleheader against Davis and Elkins College on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals fell by scores of 3-0 and 4-3, respectively. Before the day began, WJU recognized four seniors as
Sammy Macioce,
Shaynna Johnson,
Aleecia Sunagel and
Ashley Nichols played their final home weekend series at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex.
Sunagel and
Ali Smith recorded the Cardinals only hits in the opener while pitcher Nichols received the complete game loss.
In game two, Jesuit's late rally ended with the tying run at third base as D&E flew to advantage. Jesuit responded with a run in the fourth inning as Sunagel led-off with a double to centerfield.
Angie Reddick followed with a RBI single , but was stranded at second base.
In the seventh inning, an error by the FSU shortstop sparked a late rally by the Cardinals.
Skylar Berger and Smith delivered back-to-back doubles, both recording RBI. A sacrifice bunt sent Smith to third base, but the Cardinals didn't receive a timely hit to tie the game.
Erika Jusko tossed the complete game, allowing four runs on eight hits with one strikeout.
Sunagel led the Cardinals' offensive efforts with a 2-for-3 performance which included a double, single and run scored.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Tuesday, April 23 at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex against Ohio Valley University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
