Jesuit Softball Splits with Bobcats

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit softball team split a doubleheader with West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex. The Cardinal secured game one by a score of 4-3 and fell in game two 3-1. With the split, Wheeling Jesuit moved to 15-21 overall and 8-8 in WVIAC play while the Bobcats are 22-16 overall and 9-7 in league play.
 
In game one, Jesuit plated a run in the first inning as lead-off hitter, Jarah Ice, singled and scored. Tharp delivered the single to plate Ice after a WVWC fielding error. The Bobcats battled back to claim a 2-1 edge in the third inning on three consecutive singles. The Cardinals countered the attack with three runs in the fourth inning on a deep fly ball by Erika Jusko. Rachael Conrad and Ice initiated the rally with back-to-back singles. With runners on first and second, Jusko blasted a three-run homer over the left field fence to give the Cardinals a 4-2 advantage. WVWC added a run in the sixth inning, but the Cardinals held on for the win.
 
Ice recorded two singles for the Cardinals while Jusko homered. Conrad, Lorian Tharp and Sammy Macioce all had singles.
 
WJU pitcher, Ashley Nichols, received the complete game victory, allowing three runs on 10 hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
 
In game two, the Bobcats plated two runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth inning to establish a 3-0 advantage. The Cardinals answered with a run in the sixth inning, but couldn't close the gap. Angie Reddick led-off the sixth with a single up the middle and Skylar Berger reached on a fielder's choice. After a pair of WVWC errors, Berger scored and Ice delivered an infield single, but the Cardinals didn't plate any more runs.
 
Jusko received the loss with four innings of work, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and a walk with one strikeout. Ice, Reddick, Aleecia Sunagel, Victoria Vuljanic and Ali Smith all recorded hits for the Cardinals.
 
The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday, April 21 at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex against Davis and Elkins College. The Senior Day twinbill is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
