Box Score Wheeling, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team played host to Notre Dame College on Senior Night at the James LaRosa Complex. The Cardinals (5-10, 3-3 GLIAC) fell 20-7 to the Falcons (7-3, 3-2 GLIAC). Before the game, WJU recognized two seniors,
Annie Campbell and
Sara Trefnoff.
The Falcons rattled the cage twice in the first minute to establish a 2-0 advantage, but Jesuit battled back to tie the game. The Cardinals retaliated with two consecutive free position goals as
Jessie Tufnell started the scoring at the 26:50 mark. Christina Bass followed with a goal to make it a 2-2 game, and the two teams traded scores for a 3-3 stalemate. Allie Fetty scored WJU's third goal, however, NDC responded with three goals for a 6-3 advantage.
Molly Parker ended the Falcons' scoring run when she was streaking to the goal and Tufnell fed her a pass. NDC scored three more goals in a row before Jesuit found the back of the net with 10-seconds remaining in the half. Allie Fetty recorded the half's final goal, and the Cardinals trailed 9-5 at the break.
The second half was all Notre Dame. In the final 30-minutes of play, the Falcons outscored the Cardinals 11-2. Tufnell buried both of Jesuit's goals. WJU goalie,
Hannah Lazuka, received the loss with 11 saves.
Campbell is a senior defender from Steubenville, Ohio , and she has been a starter for the Cardinals' first two seasons. To date, she has recorded 63 ground balls, 33 caused turnovers, nine draw controls and two goals.
Campbell will graduate in May with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Accounting. After graduation, she plans on assisting with the family owned hardware store.
Trefnoff is a senior defender from Houston, Pa., and she has been a starter for the Cardinals' first two seasons. To date, she has recorded 24 ground balls, 14 caused turnovers, three draw controls and one goal.
Sara will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science in biology. After graduation, she plans on attending Palmer Chiropractic School in Davenport, Iowa.
Wheeling Jesuit will be back in action on Friday, April 26 against Grand Valley State University. The game is scheduled to begin to at 6 p.m.
