Women’s Lacrosse Cruises Past Walsh University, 15-3

Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio---The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team opened Saturday's game with nine consecutive goals en route to a 15-3 victory on the road against Walsh University. With the win, the Cardinals improved to 3-2 in the GLIAC and 5-8 overall while the Cavaliers fell to 1-3 in league play and 2-4 overall.
 
The Cardinals dominated first half play, scoring nine goals without allowing the Cavaliers to touch the back of the net. Christina Bass started the scoring at 23:55 when Sara Fitzsimon led her to the net. Molly Parker followed with a goal which was assisted by Jessie Tufnell. After Shelby McClure rattled the cage with WJU's third score, Parker added her second goal of the half from Stephanie Katona. Fitzsimon, Parker, Bass and McClure buried shots before Tufnell ended the half with a goal to give the Cardinals a 9-0 advantage.
 
The Cavaliers scored the first two goals of the second half, and Jesuit retaliated with a pair. Tufnell and Parker answered Walsh's offensive attack, and after a third Cavalier goal, WJU rattled-off four more goals. Tufnell ignited the final outburst after recievng a pass from Parkker, and Sara Trefnoff connected with the back of the net on a free position attempt. Fitzsimon and McClure completed the Cardinals' scoring efforts.
 
Parker led Jesuit's offensive attack with five points on four goals and an assist while Tufnell notched four points on three goals and an assist. Fitzsimon and McClure followed with three points each. Fitzsimon had two goals and an assist while McClure completed a hat trick. Bass added a pair of goals for two points. Trefnoff rounded out the scoring with a goal and Katona finalized the assist column.
 
Jesuit held a 38-20 advantage in ground balls as Bass led Jesuit with seven pick-ups. Parker secured six ground balls and a team-high four draw controls while Kaitlyn Boyd chipped in a two ground ball and one draw control performance.
 
Annie Campbell and Fitzsimon led the Cardinals' defensive efforts with three caused turnovers apiece while Erin Underwood and Tufnell followed with two each. Parker and Sara Buckley recorded one caused turnover each.
 
WJU goalie, Hannah Lazuka, earned the victory with three saves.
 
Wheeling Jesuit will be back in action on Tuesday, April 16 on the road against Edinboro University. First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
