Box Score 2 Fairmont, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit softball team traveled to Fairmont, W.Va. for a WVIAC doubleheader against Fairmont State University. The Falcons held on to win both games by scores of 4-2 and 4-3, respectively. WJU fell to 11-21 overall and 4-8 in WVIAC play while the Falcons improved to 22-7 overall and 10-2 in league play.
 
In game one, 
Lorian Tharp gave Cardinals 1-0 advantage when she blasted a homerun over the left field fence. The Cardinals added a run in the third inning on a pair of hits and sacrifice bunts for a 2-0 lead. 
Ali Smith started the inning with a single to left field and Rachael Conrad moved her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. After a second sacrifice bunt, by 
Jarah Ice, moved Smith to third Tharp plated the Cardinals second run with a RBI single to right field.
 
The Falcons retaliated in the bottom half of the third inning with three runs, establishing a 3-2 advantage on three singles and a homerun. Fairmont added a run in the sixth, and the Cardinals never recovered.
 
Tharp led the Cardinals' offense with a 2-for-3 performance which included a homerun, single, two RBI and a run scored. Smith, 
Victoria Vuljanic and Conrad added singles. WJU pitcher, 
Ashley Nichols, received the loss, allowing nine hits, four runs and two walks with five strikeouts.
 
In game two, FSU started the scoring in the first inning, opening the game with a triple and scoring on a sacrifice fly out to left field.
 
In the fifth inning, the Cardinals plated three runs for a 3-1 advantage. Vuljanic started the rally, reaching first base on a hit by pitch.Smith singled and Conrad walked to load the bases. Tharp plated two runs on an error by the FSU right fielder. 
Erika Jusko followed with a RBI double to right centerfield. The Falcons tied the game during their at-bat on two hits and a WJU fielding error.
 
The scoring was silent in the sixth, and the Falcons used the last of the seventh to win the game. In the final inning, the Falcons received back-to-back doubles for the 4-3 victory.
 
WJU pitcher, Jusko, received the loss, scattering 11 hits, two earned runs and one strikeout. Tharp led the Cardinals with a 2-for-4 performance with two RBI. Jusko, Vuljanic and Smith recorded singles while Conrad scored a run.
 
Wheeling Jesuit will be back in action on Sunday, April 14 in Philippi, W.Va. against Alderson-Broaddus College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
