Box Score 2 Kissimmee, Fla.---After Wednesday's off-day, the Wheeling Jesuit softball team was back in action at the Rebel Spring games against Walsh University and Lake Erie College. The Cardinals fell behind late in both games, eventually falling 6-2 and 7-6, respectively.
In game one, the Cavaliers plated the first run in the second inning, but Jesuit quicly responded with a run in the third inning. Jara Ice reached on a Walsh fielding error to start the inning, and
Lorian Tharp moved her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Another Cavalier fielding error allowed
Erika Jusko to land on first base while Ice plated a run.
Aleecia Sunagel doubled and Jusko advance to third base, but WJU couldn't get them across the plate.
In the fifth inning, Walsh rallied with three runs and added two runs in the seventh while Jesuit plated one in the sixth and threatened with bases loaded in the final frame.
Angie Reddick started the sixth inning with a single, and
Skylar Berger followed suit moving Reddick to third. With runners on the corners,
Victoria Vuljanic's sacrifice fly out scored Reddick, but the Cardinals left one on base. The following inning, Sunagel and Reddick fired back-to-back singles after Jusko walked to load the bases. The Cardinals left three on to end the game.
Ashley Nichols received the loss with a complete game effort, allowing seven hits, two earned runs and a walk while striking out three batters.
Sunagel and Reddick led the Cardinals with two hits apiece while Jusko and Vuljanic added a hit and a RBI each.
Against lake Erie, WJU started the scoring in the first inning as Ice led-off the game with a single. Reddick followed with a walk and a LEC fielding error allowed Ice to score.
Shaynna Johnson plated Reddick with a sacrifice fly out to left field, and Jesuit led 2-0. Lake Erie responded with a run, and both team plated runs in the third inning. The Cardinals used three base hits for a 4-1 advantage. Ice and Tharp dished out back-to-back singles to start the rally. A pair of wild pitches scored Ice, and Reddick's base on balls left runners on the corners with one out. Johnson blasted single to left field, scoring Tharp, and the Cardinals fourth run. The Storm tied the game with three runs and took a one run lead in the fourth inning, 5-4. Jesuit tied the game in the top of the fifth inning on a Tharp single and Reddick double, but Lake Erie tacked on two more runs, sixth and seventh, for the 7-6 victory.
Reddick received the loss, allowing one hit and one run. Tharp and ice led the Cardinals' offensive efforts with two hits apiece while Tharp plated three runs and ice plated two. Reddick, Sunagel and Johnson followed with hits while adding RBI. Sunagel and Johnson each had two RBI.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday, March 8 against Lake Erie at 11 a.m. and Holy Family at 1 p.m.
