Box Score BETHANY, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team fell 17-5 to the Griffins of Seton Hill University at Bethany College's Bison Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Cardinals slipped to 2-4 overall and the Griffins improved to 3-1.
Seton Hill opened the game with seven unanswered goals before Jesuit put a shot into the back of the net. At 14:28,
Sara Fitzsimon found Alley Fetty for the Cardinals first goal.
Jessie Tufnell followed with a free position goal to cut the Griffin lead to 7-2. Seton Hill rattled-off four additional goals before the half ended to establish a 11-2 halftime advantage.
After the break, the Griffins touched the back of the net six times, and the Cardinals buried three shots. With 17:38 showing on the clock, Tufnell recorded her second goal of the game and Fetty was on the assist. Fitzsimon added an unassisted goal while providing some help for Jesuit's final score. With 5:56 remaining in the game, Fitzsimon tossed a 20-yard pass in front of the crease for Christina Bass. In one motion, Bass caught the pass in midair and fired the shot into the cage.
The Cardinals picked up 28 ground balls as Fitzsimon and
Erin Underwood led with five ground balls apiece.
WJU goalie Hanna Lazuka earned the loss while collecting 17 saves.
Wheeling Jesuit will travel to Shippensburg, Pa. on Monday, March 18 to play Shippensburg University. First Draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
