Jesuit Softball Splits First Day of Shaw University Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C.--- The Wheeling Jesuit softball team (2-4) split the first day of the Shaw University tournament, dropping the opener to California University of Pennsylvania, 5-0, and rebounding with a 13-0 win over Shaw University.
 
In game one, California plated two runs in the third inning, added one in the fourth and two in the seventh for the 5-0 victory. The Vulcans scattered eight hits around the yard as WJU pitcher Ashley Nichols received the loss, tallying four strikeouts and a walk. Angela Reddick paced the Cardinal offense with a 2-for-3 perfromance which included a double and a single. Aleecia Sunagel and Victoria Vuljanic added singles.
 
In game two, the Cardinals' offense exploded for 13 runs while WJU pitcher Erika Jusko earned the complete game shutout victory. Jusko only allowed two hits while recording six strikeouts and three walks. 
 
Wheeling Jesuit scored two runs in the opening inning as Jusko blasted a single and Reddick followed with a triple, both recording a RBI. Jesuit followed with four runs in the second inning, exploded with six runs in the third and added one in the fifth.  
 
Reddick and Jarah Ice led the Cardinals' offense with a pair of 3-for-3 performances. Reddick drove in three runs with a triple, double and single while Ice recorded three singles, three RBI and three runs scored. Skylar Berger followed with 2-for-2 performance, collecting two singles and two runs scored. Jusko, Vuljanic and Rachel Conrad all added hits.
 
The Cardinals will be back in action Saturday (Feb. 16) against East Stroudsburg (1 p.m.) and Lock Haven (3 p.m.).
