Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball team snapped a five-game losing streak at home on Saturday, taking an important 73-63 non-conference win over Clarion University.
The Cardinals put another notch in the win column to put them at 2-5 on the season.
"I think we put in an outstanding collective team effort tonight," said WJU head coach
Debbie Buff. "Our defense and rebounding were both excellent, and I think we did a great job of keeping poised in the final five minutes and sticking to the game plan."
Breanna Butler led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 50 percent from the floor and going 4-7 from the three-point line.
The Cardinals as a whole were hot from behind the arc, shooting 61 percent in the fist half alone. WJU's hot shooting took them into the halftime break carrying a 43-30 lead.
Taneka Lewis was right on Butler's heels with 19 points of her own on 6-10 from the field, added six assists, and forced six turnovers as well.
Also having big games for the Cardinals were
Jaila Bryant who had 14 points in 30 minutes, and
Kylie Frizell who added 10.
The Cardinals are back in action before they break for the holidays on Tuesday, December 17
th when they will travel to New York to face fellow Jesuit school, LeMoyne College at 7:pm.
