ERIE, Pa. – The Wheeling Jesuit Men's basketball team scored its second win of the season with an 80-71 semi-final victory over Alderson-Broaddus at the 30th annual Gary Miller Classic on Friday, hosted by Gannon University.

The Cardinals now move to 2-2 on the season, and will face the winner of the Gannon/Le Moyne game in the tournament final. The consolation and championship games are scheduled for Saturday at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.

The Cardinals were led once again by the hot shooting of Justin Fritts who checked in with 25 points, going 9-16 from the field, draining three, 3's, and going a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.

Chase Lawson, the freshman Guard from Sardinia, Ohio led the scoring off the bench for the Cardinals, adding 11 points, going 3-3 from three point land, and adding two more from the free throw line.

The Cardinals went into the halftime break trailing Alderson-Broaddus by a narrow 35-32 margin having only shot 46% from the field.

The buckets were falling in the second half however, when Jesuit went a combined 14-20 in field goals (70%) and 6-8 (75%) from behind the three-point arc. The Cardinals outscored the Battlers 48-36 in the second period to take the 80-71 victory, and a trip to the finals.

WJU's defense helped turn pressure into points as well in the second half, with Jesuit scoring 17 points off turnovers. Andre Harris and Siefert had three steals a piece to lead the defensive effort for the Cardinals.

WJU will face either Gannon or LeMoyne in the tournament final match on Saturday.
