Cardinals make it a clean sweep over Malone and Findlay

Record improves to 28-5

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Canton, Oh. 11/9/13 – If one had to guess a song that would be playing on the bus as Wheeling Jesuit University pulled into the parking lot of Osborne Hall on the campus of Malone University on Saturday, it would be hard not to answer – Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again".  The Cardinals have been on the road for two straight weeks and the team found itself getting set for a tri-match Saturday afternoon against Malone University and the University of Findlay in another road contest.

By all accounts, the song must have been music to the ears of the team.  Wheeling Jesuit swept the tri-match in six straight sets, beating University of Findlay, who entered the day with a seven game winning streak, 25-18, 25-15, and 25-21 in the first match and then Malone University in the second match 25-13, 27-25, and 25-15.

"It is very nice to get two wins against quality GLIAC opponents.  We are almost through this two-week stretch of away games.  We played very well today and I am proud of our kids," stated Head Coach Christy Benner

On the heels of a .463 attack percentage in the second game and a .310 attack percentage in the third, Wheeling Jesuit swept University of Findlay in three, dropping the Oilers record to 19-10.

Jenna Pew, who put down 12 kills with 1 error on 21 attempts for a .524 attack percentage and also had 3 service aces, led WJU.  Defensively, Haley Kindall and Madison Strall, each had 3 blocks, while Makenzie Ripley executed 13 successful digs during the match.

The Cardinals had a significant advantage in hitting percentage over the Oilers with a .345 to .195 margin.  WJU also had the better of Findlay in digs, 51 to 41, and service aces, 4 to 1.

With the sweep of the University of Findlay in three, the Cardinals cast their gaze on the Pioneers of Malone University in their second match of the day.

In the game against Malone University, WJU was again led by Pew, who put down 13 kills with 1 error on 21 attempts and a daunting .571 attack percentage.  Flanking Pew, were Kayce Krucki and Emma Schleucher, who also turned in impressive performances.  Krucki registered 8 kills on 24 attempts, posted 12 digs, and had 1 blocked shot.  Schleucher tallied 6 kills on 16 attempts, had 1 serving ace, and 1 blocked shot.  Andrea Thobe led the Cardinals with 31 assists, while Madison Strall followed Krucki's 12 digs with 8 of her own.
