Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball team fell 84-59 on the road to the University of Charleston.
Jaila Bryant and
Breanna Butler led the Cardinals' offense with 13 points apiece, and
Emily Robinson followed with 12 points.
Jamie Sobczak rounded out the Cardinals' double-digit scoring efforts with 10 points, and
Alex Anderson grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles (9-7, 6-6 WVIAC) opened the game with a 6-0 advantage, however, Jesuit responded with back-to-back buckets by Sobczak, 6-4. Charleston extended the lead to 10-4, and a 6-0 run by the Cardinals (5-11, 2-10 WVIAC) tied the game at 10-10. The Golden Eagles broke the stalemate, but on the ensuing possession, a Robinson 3-pointer lifted Jesuit to their first lead, 13-12. Charleston responded with a long range strike, and the two teams battled back-and-forth to 20-20. Bryant gave the Cardinals a 22-20 lead, and the home squad connected from deep again. The scoreboard continued to flip-flop until consecutive buckets gave Charleston a 30-25 advantage, and by the end of the first half, the Golden Eagles established an eight point lead, 43-35.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles surged for 41 points and limited the Cardinals to 24 points. Chelsea Brumby and Nichole Perry led Charleston with 14 points apiece, and Jessi Cowden followed with 11 points. LeAnne Ross added 10 points, while three Golden Eagles chipped in seven points each.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, January 26 at the Alma Grace McDonough Center against area-rival West Liberty University. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
