Jesuit Swimming Returns from Training Trip With Big Wins Over Fairmont

FAIRMONT, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit women's and men's swim teams returned from their winter break training trip and made a splash during their first competition of the new year on Friday evening at Fairmont state University. The Cardinals swept the Falcons as the women posted a 154-81 win while the men secured a 141-115 victory over the 20th ranked team in the country. In addition, Jandre Strauss set a new Feaster Center Pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.78.
 
The Cardinals claimed 13 first place finishes. The women touched first on seven occasions and the men followed with six wins. The meet opened with a sweep in the 400-yard medley relay. The women's team of Paige Carpenetti, Meghan Ebbert, Maria Palmquist and Taylor Susteric posted a first place time of 4:19.52. The men's team of Jakub Skrzypczak, Strauss, Patrick Chadowski and Thomas Smith followed with a 3:35.76 winning time.
 
The Cardinals continued with sweeps in the 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly events. Carpenetti and Skrzypcazk won the 100 Back with times of 1:04.24 and 56.65, respectively, while Ebbert and Strauss claimed top honors in the 100 Breast events with times of 1:08.98 and 59.78. Rounding out the women's and men's dual wins were Palmquist and Chadowski with top times in the 100 Fly, 1:05.13 and 53.50.
 
Carpenetti, Strauss and Chadowski continued their winning ways. Carpenetti secured another first pace win in the 200 Back (2:18.92), Strauss stopped the timer first in the 200 Breast (2:12.05) and Chadowski recorded a win in the 200 Fly (1:59.24).
 
The Jesuit women secured two additional wins. In the women's 200-yard freestyle, Vanessa Gipson and Taylor Ulisse finished first and second with times of 2:04.42 and 2:06.57. Lydia Kidd followed with a top time in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:23.01 and followed with a second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (11.25.42).
 
The Cardinals will be back in action at the Alma Grace McDonough Center Natatorium on Saturday, January 26 for Senior Day against Davis & Elkins College. Meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
