Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball fell, 77-63, on the road against Shepherd University on Monday evening. The Cardinals led 28-23 at the break, however, the home standing Rams surged for 54 second-half points for the league victory.
Wheeling Jesuit (5-8, 2-7 WVIAC) was led by
Jaila Bryant with 18 points which included a 10-for-13 effort from the foul line.
Jamie Sobczak followed with 15 points, while
Emily Robinson and
Breanna Butler notched 11 points apiece. Sobczak added a team-high eight rebounds
The first half was tightly played, featuring five tied scores and five lead changes. Wheeling Jesuit finished the initial 20-minutes with a five point advantage, but couldn't slow down the Rams' (5-8, 4-5 WVIAC) second-half attack. With 5:22 remaining in the first half, the Cardinals used a 7-0 run sparked by an old-fashion 3-point play by Bryant. Jesuit increased the lead to seven points, 28-21, but the Rams connected with a layup as time expired.
In the second half, Shepherd tied the game within the first three minutes and continued to attack the basket, building an eight-point, 54-46 advantage. The Rams led by as many as 17 points before securing the 77-63 victory.
The Rams' offense was led by Emily Daniel with 18 points. Gabby Finchum followed with a double-double performance of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Alex Weakland and Rachel Johnson added 14 and 11.
The Cardinals will travel to Bluefield State College on Thursday, January 17. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
