Murfreesboro, N.C.---The Wheeling Jesuit women's soccer team touched the back of the net six times on Saturday afternoon, securing a 6-0 shutout on the road against Chowan University. With the win, the Cardinals improved to 4-8-2 overall, while the Hawks fell to 1-13 overall.
Jenna Klemkowsky and
Jessie Vilkofsky led the Cardinals' offense with two goal apiece, while
Allison Geary and
Morgan Headings each found the back of the net.
Carley Kordas earned the shutout victory with four saves.
Klemkowsky lifted the Cardinals to a 2-0 advantage before the halftime horn sounded. In the 26
th minute, Klemkowsky fired a penalty kick past the Hawks' goalkeeper for a 1-0 Jesuit lead. Klemkowsky struck again in the 39
th minute, sending a free kick into the frame.
After the break, the Cardinals increased the 2-0 advantage by four goals. Headings was the first to touched the back of the net, in the 58
th minute, when
Aliya Kureishy led her to the frame.
Whitney Workman and Vilkofsky teamed up for next two goals. Workman sent the ball to Vilkofski, who buried the shot on the far post. Two minutes later, the duo extended Jesuit's lead 5-0 in similar fashion.
The final goal of the game was recorded in the 80
th minute by
Allison Geary. Workman, who recorded her third consecutive assist, sent a pass down the field for Geary, creating a breakaway opportunity. Geary took the ball into the box and fired on the far post to wrap-up the scoring at 6-0.
Wheeling Jesuit will travel to Buckhannon, W.Va. on Tuesday, October 16 for a league contest with West Virginia Wesleyan College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
