Melia Gorrell enters her first season as a Graduate Assistant on Head Coach Christy Benner's staff in 2026. She joins the coaching staff after a four-year career on the Cardinal's back line, and will work primarily with the team's liberos and defensive specialists.
Across her four seasons with the Cardinals, Gorrell would serve as the team's libero on a rotating basis. Across her four-year career, Gorrell would finish with 650 career digs, averaging 2.36 digs/set, while adding 128 assists and 52 service aces. She would help lead the Cardinals to the MEC Tournament in each of her four years, while being part of the team's MEC Championship squads in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Her top season came in 2023, when she finished with 328 digs across 99 sets played for an average of 3.31 digs/set.
Gorrell graduated from Wheeling University in the spring of 2026, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She will be studying to obtain her Master's in Business Administration.
