Mathias enters his second season as a Graduate Assistant on Head Coach Thadd Obecny's staff during the 2026-2027 season. He helps assists in all facets of coaching and program management for the Men's Team, while providing coaching assistance on the course.
During the 2025-2026 season, Nunez would help guide the Cardinals to the NCAA DII Men's Golf National Championship for the first time in program history. He would walk along with golfers on the course, giving them guidance on which clubs to use and how the greens were curving. His specialty would come in the short game, helping the Cardinals work on their puts and chips throughout the season. He worked a lot with Elias Ekenes-Fosback and Luke Wennberg at the National Championship event, guiding the Cardinal freshmen in their first shot at the National Championship stage.
Prior to joining the Wheeling coaching staff, Nunez was a four year golfer at MEC rival Glenville State University. He was a four-time All-MEC honoree with the Pioneers, and represented the program at the 2024 NCAA DII Atlantic/East Regional Tournament.
