Entering his fourth year, Mike Meyers has established an upward progress for both the Wheeling Jesuit men's and women's swimming teams in record-setting fashion.

The veteran head coach's first three seasons at the helm have resulted in three combined Appalchian Swimming Conference team titles, teams earning Cardinal men's swimmers claimed ASC Swimmer of the Year three-straight years, teams earned Scholastic All-American status in five of six semesters and the squads have shattered close to 80 school records and many ASC marks. Meyers was also honored as the 2014 ASC Men's Swimming Coach of the Year.

Directing the Wheeling Jesuit men, Meyers directed the squad to two ASC team titles. He also coached Henrique Fructozio (2012-13) one time and Jakub Skrzpczak (2013-14 & 2014-15) to ASC Men's Swimmer of the Year the last three conference championships. For the women, Meyers guided the Lady Cardinals to one ASC title and two runner-up finishes.

Before coming to lead WJU, Meyers, a native of Upper St. Clair, Pa., started the women’s swimming program at Chatham University, where he built a highly-competitive team. In just three short years, the women’s team won the All Women’s Colleges Conference (AWCC) championship and quickly joined the NCAA Division III Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC), where they finished fourth.

For five consecutive years, Meyers’ team earned Academic All-American honors. In addition, he developed the university’s water polo program, which finished fifth in the nine-team tournament in the third year of existence. Like the women’s swimming program, the water polo team was dedicated to the classroom as much as athletics. They achieved the highest team grade point average in the nation, inclusive of all three NCAA Divisions.

Prior to his time at Chatham, Meyers led the Peters Township High School swimming program for eight years. During his high school tenure, he coached several Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) and Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) champions and record holders, including 32 high school All-Americans, 10 National Qualifiers and over 40 All-State swimmers.

Meyers earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1974 from West Liberty State College (University) and a Master of Arts in Education from New Mexico State University. During his time at West Liberty, he was named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-American in 13 events, WVIAC All-Conference in 16 events and Record Holder in 10 events.

In 1999, Meyers was inducted to West Liberty’s Athletic Hall of fame. Meyers was also enshrined in Penn Hills High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame as a swimmer (2008) and Peters Township Athletic Hall of Fame as a coach (2008).

Along with athletics, Meyers adds a wealth of experience in business, travel, teaching and global understanding to the Wheeling Jesuit swimming program. He spent several years with an International Airline, British Airways, while owning and operating a Travel Agency, CTS International. Meyers encourages his student-athletes to expand their global horizons, which is consistent with Wheeling Jesuit’s mission.
